Drug Arrests Continue As Policy Continues to Fail Humanity

Every 31 seconds a person is arrested for a drug offence in the United States. The vast majority of these offences are for simple possession. Drug use continues to grow, and populations the world over are becoming more educated on drugs use and the harms caused by the war waged against human behavior, while putting public health issues in the hands of criminal entities. It is time to become fully aware of the full scope of the harms caused by the War on Drugs. The Legacy Project will tell these stories, through the experiences of those directly impacted and the families and communities that continue to be plagued by the collateral damage.

Black, brown and poor families endured the brunt of the War on Drugs. Declared America’s ” public enemy number one”, minority communities we’re over policed, incarcerated in enormous quantities and spalled with onerous jail sentences that only benefited government contractors and the prison industrial complex. Profits over people, using black and brown human bodies. The prison system itself has proven to be criminal, facing multiple lawsuits and public cries for closures.

We need to raise awareness and elevate the voices of those most deeply affected.
