It’s 4/20 once again, and as some would call it Peter Tosh Day. 4/20 is an official global cannabis celebration and unofficial holiday for cannabis enthusiasts, consumers and activists. The date was popularized by rumours of a small group of high-school friends who met after school at exactly 4:20 PM to meet and consume ganja amongst friends. Niambe Mc Intosh, daughter of the late reggae legend, Peter Tosh has a slightly different take on who the day should be attributed to. Her Father.
Her campaign started in 2015 and it was finally in 2023 that she announced her official co-opting the day to commemorate her father’s struggles with the authorities and advocacy for cannabis legalization. See the video below.
Niambe McIntosh discusses how her father, Peter Tosh endured numerous incidents of police brutality and incarceration for his use and call for the legalization of the ganja plant. His global hit song, Legalize It, remains a huge influence on cannabis culture on a world-wide scale.
Whether you call it Peter Tosh Day or just celebrate cannabis on April, 20th, the Caribbean is a buzz with cannabis events to elevate your senses on this 4/20.Â
Fat Nugs Magazine and a host of other brands, businesses and organizations from around the globe will be coming together to not only sponsor the first annual Orange Hill Ganja Cup, but build it from scratch.
